Getting started

How to reach us

Tell us what the door is doing and roughly where you are - that is enough to know whether it is a same-visit fix or something that needs a part ordered first.

  1. 1

Call and tell us what it’s doing

    (757) 384-2224 - describe the symptom and roughly where you are.

  2. 2

    Or send it in writing

Use the request form if it’s easier than talking.

  3. 3

    We diagnose on site

A technician tests the door under power and by hand before anything is quoted or replaced.

  4. 4

    You approve the plan

You hear what failed and what it takes to fix it - the work starts only after that.

Who Does the Work

When you call, you're talking to the people who actually show up at your house. There's no call center reading from a script and no dispatcher guessing what's wrong with your door. We work on torsion springs, openers, tracks, rollers, and panels, and that's the conversation we have with you from the first call.

Most of the houses we see day to day went up between 1966 and 1977, which was the big build-out era for this part of Norfolk. That means a lot of original hardware still in service - torsion springs sized for doors that are heavier than what you'd buy today, openers from before anyone worried about smart-home integration, and tracks mounted the way builders did it fifty years ago. Knowing that stock cold is most of the job before we ever pick up a wrench.

We don't do new home construction and we don't install anything beyond garage doors and their hardware. If your door problem turns out to be a framing issue or something structural, we'll tell you straight instead of taking the job anyway.

Contacting Us

  1. Call (757) 384-2224

That's the fastest way to get someone who can talk through what your door is doing - grinding, not closing all the way, one side dropping faster than the other - and get a read on whether it's a spring, a cable, or the opener itself. Our address is 500 E Main St, Norfolk, VA 23510. That puts us close to about a mile north, two miles north, so calls from those areas usually mean a short drive for us.

  2. We also cover five miles southwest, Downtown six miles southwest

And out as far as eleven miles west-southwest, eight miles south. We don't run a 24-hour emergency line, so if you call outside normal hours, leave a message and we'll get back to you. If your car is trapped and it's the middle of the night, that's worth knowing up front rather than finding out after you've waited on hold.

The Short Version

You call, you describe what the door is doing, and we tell you honestly whether it sounds like a quick fix or something bigger. If it's a spring or a cable on a standard residential door, we can usually say so over the phone. If it's an opener acting erratic or a door that's been limping along for months, we'd rather see it in person before we guess at a cost.

We serve the Norfolk area out to roughly an eleven-mile radius, covering Downtown, along with Portsmouth and Poquoson a bit further out. If you're outside that stretch, say so when you call - it's better to know before a truck is on the way than after.

There's no sales pitch built into the first call. We're trying to figure out what's actually wrong, not upsell you on a door you don't need.

What We Actually Do

  1. We repair and replace residential garage doors and the parts that make them move

Torsion and extension springs, cables, rollers, hinges, tracks, and openers. Given how much of the housing in this area dates to the 1966-1977 stretch, a lot of our calls are about matching old hardware to parts that are still manufactured, or explaining why a full spring and cable replacement makes more sense than patching a thirty-year-old system piece by piece.

  2. Winters here aren't brutal

But the cold-moderate swings we get are enough to stiffen old springs and make marginal hardware fail outright - that's usually what's behind the sudden cluster of calls after a cold snap. What we don't do: new construction openings, commercial rolling steel doors, or gate systems. If that's what you need, we'll tell you that on the phone instead of letting you find out when the truck arrives. For straight residential garage door work in Norfolk and the surrounding area, that's where we spend our time.

Questions

Frequently asked

Straight answers about garage door repair in Norfolk. Still unsure? Ask us directly.

Why does my spring keep breaking when the house is only a few decades old?

If your house was built in the 1966-1977 window common in this area, the original torsion spring has likely gone through far more open-close cycles than it was rated for. Metal fatigue is normal after that many years. Once one spring on a double door fails, the other is usually close behind, so we check both.

Do you cover Portsmouth or Poquoson?

Portsmouth is about eight miles from our base and Poquoson is roughly fifteen, so both are within reach depending on the day. Call and tell us where you are and we'll let you know the timing.

My garage door is an odd size, can you still get parts?

Often yes, but older homes in this area sometimes have openings sized to 1970s standards that don't match today's stock dimensions exactly. We'll check before we order anything, and if parts are hard to source we'll tell you whether repair or replacement makes more sense.

Does the cold affect garage doors here?

This area sits in a moderate cold climate band, so freeze-thaw cycles are real but not extreme. Rollers and track hardware still take wear from temperature swings over the years, which is part of why we check those components on every call, not just the one you reported.
